Buying a car from a man who bought the car through a lease ending in ownership

Imâm Sâlih bin Fawzân al-Fawzân

Question: A man bought a car through a lease ending in ownership, and then he wanted to make a contract with me to buy that car from him and pay his installments. Is that allowed?

Answer: That sale was invalid from the start, because a lease that ends in ownership is an invalid contract. The Permanent Committee of Major Scholars has issued a fatwâ stating that such a contract is invalid, so everything that follows from it is not correct.
