Calling to Allâh’s religion must be based on knowledge

Imâm Sâlih bin Fawzân al-Fawzân

Question: What is the ruling on calling to Allâh’s religion through motivational stories not found in the Qur’ân and Sunnah?

Answer: Calling to Allâh’s religion must be based on the Qur’ân and Sunnah and not based on stories – unless those motivational and dissuasive stories are mentioned in the Qur’ân and Sunnah. Fantasy stories are not suitable for calling to Allâh’s religion:

ادْعُ إِلِى سَبِيلِ رَبِّكَ بِالْحِكْمَةِ وَالْمَوْعِظَةِ الْحَسَنَةِ وَجَادِلْهُم بِالَّتِي هِيَ أَحْسَنُ

“Invite (mankind, O Muhammad ﷺ) to the Way of your Lord (i.e. Islâm) with wisdom (i.e. with the Divine Inspiration and the Qur’ân) and fair preaching, and argue with them in a way that is better.” (16:125)

Calling to Allâh’s religion must be based on knowledge – and not on jokes and fantasy stories.
