Imâm Sâlih bin Fawzân al-Fawzân
Question: Is it upon a muslim to stand up if he witnesses a moving funeral passing in front of him? Has something been narrated from the tradition of the Prophet صَلَّىٰ ٱللَّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ?
Answer: Yes, ahâdeeth have been narrated about standing up for the funeral, and ahâdeeth have been narrated about not standing up. Some scholars therefore say that standing up is recommended, while others say that it has been abrogated. In any case, a person who stands up should not be criticized, just like a person who doesn’t stand up should not be criticized.
