The correct intention when seeking knowledge

Shaykh Sâlih bin `Abdil-`Azîz Âlush-Shaykh

One of the characteristics of the scholars and students is that they are sincere for Allâh’s جَلَّ وَعَلَا sake and that they do not seek knowledge for the sake of fame and reputation. The correct intention is that knowledge is sought for the sake of Allâh جَلَّ وَعَلَا, in order to correct one’s worship and relationship with Allâh جَلَّ وَعَلَا.

When one gets stronger, he can benefit his believing brothers and spread Allâh’s جَلَّ وَعَلَا religion. This is the correct intention that results in reward. If his intention is to remove ignorance from himself and others, the intention is correct – because ignorance is blameworthy.
