Question: A traveler has reached his destination. Does his travel end now?

Answer: The travel doesn’t end just because he has arrived at his destination. He can still refrain from fasting – even if he stays for the whole month. And if he returns to his hometown while not fasting, he doesn’t have to fast the rest of that day. He can eat and drink for the rest of that day. Since he is going to make up for that day, it is useless to fast the rest of it. This is the correct opinion, shared by Mâlik, ash-Shâfi`ee and Ahmad – and the one that has been reported. However, he should not eat and drink in public.
