Combined Maghrib and `Ishâ’ and it turned out he didn’t have to

Imâm Sâlih bin Fawzân al-Fawzân

Question: A man combined Maghrib and `Ishâ’ because he was scheduled for surgery after Maghrib. After surgery he woke up at 9 pm – and it was still time for `Ishâ’. Does he have to pray `Ishâ’ again?

Answer: No. He combined the prayers in a state in which he was allowed to combine them; he was scheduled for surgery and he didn’t know how long it was going to last and when he was going to wake up. His combining is correct إِنْ شَاءَ ٱللَّهُ – and so is his prayer.
