It is forbidden to condemn evil if it leads to a greater evil

Imâm Sâlih bin Fawzân al-Fawzân

Question: Should the evil be condemned if the condemnation of it will lead to a greater evil?

Answer: In this case it is forbidden to condemn it. If the condemnation of an evil leads to an even greater evil, it is not allowed to condemn it. Lesser evil is chosen in order to avoid greater one. Allah جَلَّ وَعَلَا said:

وَلاَ تَسُبُّواْ الَّذِينَ يَدْعُونَ مِن دُونِ اللّهِ فَيَسُبُّواْ اللّهَ عَدْوًا بِغَيْرِ عِلْمٍ

“And insult not those whom they (disbelievers) worship besides Allâh, lest they insult Allâh wrongfully without knowledge.” (6:108)

He forbade cursing of the idols if that leads to disbelievers cursing Allâh سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى.
