Pictures are not necessary for da`wah

`Allâmah Muhammad bin Hâdee al-Madkhalee

By Allâh, besides Whom no one is worthy of worship, I do not allow Tasweer (illustrations, sculptures, photography etc.). I do not like it, I’m not happy with it – and I will deal with those who spread my images on Judgment Day. I swear by Allâh that I’m not satisfied with that. How can I be, when Allâh’s Messenger  cursed image-makers? He  cursed the one who eats interest, who finances it, who writes it, who is testifying to it – and he cursed image-makers. This is reported in Muslim’s “as-Saheeh”. People! What are we going to do with all these proofs?

All scholars allow it in case of necessity, but these pictures are not necessary. What are we going to do with all these proofs? What are we going to do with them? This is not a necessity. The Book of Allâh has been submitted to us from person to person. The Sunnah of Allâh’s Messenger ﷺ has been presented to us through chains of narrations and from person to person. If images were a requirement, these people’s images would have been presented to us and saved – and they would have been worthier of it. Authentic narrations are enough, and today we even have access to audio. You hear a person speak like he is in front of you. That is plenty – and all praise belongs to Allâh.
